dont mind the typos its I.M and we expressing freely without any borders without any constraints this is MY medium this is my VOICE so SHUT me up!

I had a question thrown at me by a national television channel and i had to get into the mind of the NOW who happens to be Sizwe,my answer would not have been a reflection of the current as i do come from a generation before before. Here goes our I.M thanks to Sizwe

ASD

Sizwe is online.
RuSh: they send me two copies one for u and one for me
i got it here

Sizwe: wow man, are u willing to post it to me? if it is possible?

RuSh: yeah i will just but tight to get to a post office

Sizwe: thanks hey. i'm not in a rush though. you can take your time. would really love to hear it
can i send you my address later?

RuSh: tell me that track itself
the one u did
would u say its a poltical track?

Sent at 9:05 PM on Wednesday
Sizwe: that was the whole intention. politics at that time was deteriorating in SA. no one was willing to speak about it.
so we went ahead with it
many people did think we did it just to sound 'conscious' and so forth.. that was not the intention really.
lotta research went into that track actually

RuSh: cos it seems nobody speaking bout whats happening in SA currently
and all the artist i find are performing for the %#*
but i know its cos these artist are manipulated by money
so nobody is willing to speak against the powers that be cos they feed and link these artist to more money
while the values in our society are declining

Sizwe: the whole point of expression has changed
its not about it anymore

RuSh: so what would u say contributes to the change in mindset in the youth THESE days
as opposed to when we had a STRUGGLE

Sizwe: well the common youth is very priviledged. i mean, i live around these people.
they just don' care what has happened and what is happening around them because it does not adversely or directly affect them
life is too good.

RuSh: so then we would have to say that people that do have access to making and recording music are more privaleged?

Sizwe: i really do not mean to generalise. but that is the common case.
there's nothing driving the,
they have it all already
no struggle to put into a song
that is what i have noticed myself

RuSh: so as someone thats PRIVILAGED what would u say keeps you from not falling into that mold?

Sizwe: i guess its my personal life experiences that have moulded me to be the way i am. i was very priviledged to have seen and spoken to many different types of people around South Africa, and i have a personal interest to unerstanding the human psyche.
it is something i always think about
its just the way that i am i guess

RuSh: i got ya
yeah im just trynna get a clear understanding as to what motivates artist these days
cos generally and yes we could possibly blame it on mainstream media
but it seems u need to fall into a certain mold to really be heard by the masses

Sizwe: no i completely agree with you. the media has a great influence on the youth. its greater than you think
i have friends who go all up on these music videos in short skirts and so forth just to be recognized
that 'Tippy Toes' video - da Lez. perfect example
half of the girls on that video are my friends. its rediculous as to why they went on there
and what they did too
its crazy man

RuSh: %#%&^#*(*#&v called me
and asked me do i know of any SA hip hop artist that speaks about whats happening
and i couldnt give them any artist straight off the head as i hardly find any hip hop artist speaking out against these things

Sizwe: you will hardly find artists talking about the political situation. in most cases artists just don't understand the full scope of the story
in other cases they are too scared to talk about it either because of public reputation or because of the current political situation
and people my age will HARDLY speak about it
hiphop is a way of being cool nowadays
the media would not even support artists speaking about politics
i don't even have to tell you that

RuSh: yeah i know
cos who owns the media
these exact people we stand up against

Sizwe: exactly
there is no more freedom in freedom of speech

RuSh: yeah its all a lie
democracy is a lie

Sizwe: its not about the people anymore. no one cares about that
and speaking about it here in SA won't get me very far
but i really don't care

RuSh: yeah

Sizwe: it's a personal interest and passion of mine. i am really close to it

RuSh: DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!

Sizwe: even with the unintended pun, you're still right!!
but for real tho. it will take a lot for appreciation to come back

RuSh: i think our people are still confined to race
and they dont see that the new racism is class
when you poor u will believe any lie that OUR people tell us
the world has become globalized our leaders bought into a one world system
and we all becoming slaves to this system that was created whether we say its a white man we all are becoming numbers

Sizwe: racism is subliminaly everywhere
look at why PE doesn't like Bux
these pe cats tell me everything
no one will let go

RuSh: yeah nobody bro
thats why its important for us to pass on OUR truth to other generations
the past must die for the future to be borne

Sizwe: passing on to future generations is not that easy. i really wish it were. i was just lucky enough to have actually taken my father seriously when he spoke about the past
many people just don't care
my generation is already losing it
one will never truely know the true struggle unless one has been through it
i haven't even been through all of it

RuSh: YES

Sizwe: i try and relate. believe me i really wish i truly knew.
like you do not understand. it is a deep interest of mine
i see the people here and how they are right now. the next generation of people after me will be very watered down
i've seen many things here in Cape Town in such a short space of time already

RuSh: u studying at UCT?
yeah bro as much as i like ape town i also hate it
cos its so western and pushes western ideals in all mediums

Sizwe: yah im at uct
the main reason why i'm here is to see how people are over here
i remember Emile from black noise said to me that the Western Cape is seen as the most racist province because they were the only province that voted for the NP
in 1994

RuSh: yeah

Sizwe: i'm really trying to study how people's situations are in different cities and how they differ from city to city

RuSh: yeah

Sizwe: i really think it would help me understand people a lot more
help me have a better sense of relativity

RuSh: and what u made of it thus far?

Sizwe: people i study with here are very priviledged
its not they fault that they are
*their fault
it does affect the way they think and act. some of them are only used to the wealthy life. that's all they know. that's why they find varsity really surprising
my one friend here is HIV positive.
he tells everybody about it. its interesting to see the people's reactions.
i take notice of how different people react
there are a lot of different people here who come from ,any backgrounds. some people even assume that everyone here are from the same background as them and that they are just as priviledged as them
its quite a nice experience so far

RuSh: yeah take the expierances and learn from it
but do not fall into it

Sizwe: most definately. i know what i came here to do
i have gotten used to unfluences and all that stuff
*influences
i'm learning every way possible.
i really am passionate about it

Music evolution,or shall we dub it revolution? While constantly rewinding my tape deck into memory lane i cant help but sit and ponder about the days when i dreamt about the latest Eric b & Rakim tapes.I can recall the excitement, now time evolved and we moved to Cd's those laser disc that so often scratches and leaves the artist stumbling over beats with lyrics that ignites anger, love and joy.Modern day we mp3'in and ituning, how easy 99 cents for the latest singles, what more could we ask for? I remember how i venomously fought the transition, man i couldnt imagine not reading the booklet not being able to check the credits! Imagine no artwork? Then the Ipod came and blew away my imagination it had artwork,i could connect my player to any device that could play music loud as FFFFFFFFFFF.So im asking myself in post modern times when the internet is so freely available why do artist still seek deals? The biggest struggle for artist was distribution, getting our music into stores that was where our need for distribution was.The music industry is under great threat people are hardly buying cd's these days and our options to distribute music has widened,do we really need the sony's ? The internet has become the single most important resource for third world countries, while there is still a huge gap in terms of internet connectivity it leaves us with a much broader playing field than the one we previously held. What creates a buying pattern? do people really need the tangible ?

I’ll be waiting

Asa (Pronounced Asha) her music is a beautiful backdrop to my thoughts,i guess this is a entry of love dedicated to love and a love that's romanticized. This love shit can really drain you right, but don't you think its beautiful when you have a love that you feel is connected beyond the utterance of the word LOVE.I often dream of overthrowing systems that's kept humanity incarcerated,a system or a number of them that kept us separated but it seems all my efforts are thrown out of proportion whenever i smell her trail."We don’t have to go the 360 degrees Now is time we go the 180"
