The construct of race always amazes me i think growing up in race obsessed south africa led to a interesting discovery of race and how its viewed.I think race transforms all over the world. This morning i woke up to Radah telling my dad upon entry to our house that she is coloured. My word, alot of thoughts ran through my mind, firstly she is half indian half coloured and all of that should be embraced but i find that the heirachy syndrome is still very much alive. Her Indian grandmother tried very hard to train her that she is indian but when she came to live with her coloured family its as if the tussle to be "something" just increased.I really am trying to understand at what age does racial identification become a important part of a childs identity? The sound of oneness is amazing and something i would absolutely love to see,but there is so many factors that seems to impact on division of all sort. Can we become one and lose our culture, can we speak one language, can we give up on class divisions! I like variety i absolutely love it and i think we should embrace who we are but not impose our values on others.
