back stage passing

Space Age

Verse One

Stutter poems an owed to new vices

Thundering assumption bruise your blue Nike airs

Hundreds of us confuse the two right ?

So I’ll shimmy when the city reduces fuel prices

Can’t cut a rug but prove to move light years

Buttery utterance, punctuated and timeless

Deep space, hunter becomes the moons nightmare

I wonder if the mother ship knew we grew time here?

Guess not, sentences text watch-

How I benefit from everything on your desk top

Barney Rubble made it right back to Bedrock

But my body double made imaginary friend boss

(Ooh) Right in the bread box

Right time, wrong melody “A” got-

To be kidding me the enemy aint us

Still trying to figure just where the hate was

Chorus

When I say “A” sound-

The alarm we on the freight train bound-

For infinity and beyond their town

Cut a space age fillet

We lace A- Sounds

When the beat come back

Decorate it with elaborate drum tracks

Separate the space with some thumb tact’s

I’m the one, son something when the sun don’t laugh

Verse Two

Bad habit, the rabbit out of the hat trick

Took a stab at it and managed bury hatchets

Only took one good strike to make a has been

Built a whole industry out of a struck match stick

He fresh to def, I’m done with deaf rappers

Left necks snapped with half the text backwards

Scribble what I’m into and enter the next chapter

Said “What’s the point of getting your damn hands up (No)

Put your damn hands down

Trouble with you kids can’t let them stand out

One hit wonder- why he got a glass house

Let’s throw stones just for a laugh now

Simmer down young brethren

Better call A-Sounds for your first

In serendipitous fist in the air fashion

If you heard that then we get them all clapping

Repeat Chorus

The construct of race always amazes me i think growing up in race obsessed south africa led to a interesting discovery of race and how its viewed.I think race transforms all over the world. This morning i woke up to Radah telling my dad upon entry to our house that she is coloured. My word, alot of thoughts ran through my mind, firstly she is half indian half coloured and all of that should be embraced but i find that the heirachy syndrome is still very much alive. Her Indian grandmother tried very hard to train her that she is indian but when she came to live with her coloured family its as if the tussle to be "something" just increased.I really am trying to understand at what age does racial identification become a important part of a childs identity? The sound of oneness is amazing and something i would absolutely love to see,but there is so many factors that seems to impact on division of all sort. Can we become one and lose our culture, can we speak one language, can we give up on class divisions! I like variety i absolutely love it and i think we should embrace who we are but not impose our values on others.

Where were you at this particular stage of your life? How did you view hip hop and as a late bloomer how would you sum up the contribution of this collective to the rise of the hip hop movement?

Imaginary friends are the pseudonyms or extensions or alternate selves that we create to represent a part of ourselves that's not "normal" (subject to criticism of course) so in an ironic twist our "imaginary friends" help us get closer to our true selves...hope that answers your question-Hishaam

A African tale

Lets explore Africa are you down? I think in my lifetime the importance of music was always to transport culture and identity and speak about issues such as war such as race, love and love lost.Over the last number of years i have become increasingly obsessed with hearing more African music or any music that's off the radar.T.I.A -This Is Africa

stand up

IF YOU LEAVE (Im Telech) -Idan Raichel

If you leave who will hug me like this
who will listen to me at the end of the day
who will console and calm me
as only you know how

And if you leave who will I wait for by the window
in a festive dress
to come hug me so,
when you arrive

When you leave go, I'll go out to the sun,
in the golden field, morning and evening,
the moon will light up my face
which dreams all day long of you

When you come back,
you'll carry me in your arms,
from the field to the river,
you'll wash my face and tell me words
as only you know how

As you should have noted by now im a fan of the Idan Raichel's work,i feel its impossible for me to deny the honesty that their music reflects. Its just something in their music that draws me something i find missing in alot of music that comes out these days.So im ranting do pick up their music listen to it actually no devour it!
